14 December. The Lithuanian Development Bank was established.
2000
15 September. The Lithuanian Development Bank received a commercial bank licence.
28 December. The Finnish financial service group SAMPO Plc acquired and began to manage the Lithuanian Development Bank.
2001
The name of the Lithuanian Development Bank was changed to SAMPO Bankas. A new Board of the bank was elected.
2004
December. The legal status of SAMPO Bankas was changed from closed joint stock company (in LithuanianUAB) to joint stock company (in LithuanianAB).
20062007
In November 2006, the Danish banking group Danske Bank A/S signed an agreement with the Finnish financial service group SAMPO Plc to acquire the Sampo Bank Group together with the Lithuanian (as well as Finnish, Latvian, and Estonian) SAMPO banks. The transaction was completed on 1 February 2007, and since July of the same year Danske Bank has had direct control of 100 percent of the shares of SAMPO Bankas.
Danske Bank is now the largest financial service group in Northern Europe and the Baltic States.
2008
On 1 June, after seven years of successful operation in Lithuania, SAMPO Bankas entered a new quality stage and became Danske Bankas. The image and the visual identity of Danske Bank Group were also assumed.
